Why does Dentrix Ascend show a staff member's name on online-booked appointments?

When a patient books an appointment online through NexHealth, Dentrix Ascend will show a staff member's name as the person who created it — not a generic NexHealth user. This article explains why that happens and how to confirm whether an appointment originated from online booking.

Why a staff member's name appears

NexHealth's integration with Dentrix Ascend runs entirely through the NexHealth Chrome extension. After initial setup, all reads and writes to Dentrix Ascend — including new appointment inserts — are processed through whichever Chrome extension is active at the time the request is handled.

Because the Chrome extension is tied to a staff user's Dentrix Ascend login, that staff member's name is recorded as the appointment creator. There is no separate NexHealth system account used for appointment inserts after onboarding is complete.

This is a limitation of how the Chrome extension integration works. There is currently no way to change the name that appears on NexHealth-inserted appointments in Dentrix Ascend.

How to confirm an appointment came from online booking

If you need to verify whether a specific appointment was booked online through NexHealth:

  1. In NexHealth, go to Scheduling → Online Booking.

  2. Search for the patient's name.

  3. If the appointment appears here, it was booked online through NexHealth.

  4. In Dentrix Ascend, the appointment will also appear with descriptor "Booked online".

This is the most reliable way to distinguish NexHealth online bookings from appointments created directly by staff.
