This article explains how to set the date range, choose locations and summary metrics, break down individual cards, and check what each metric counts in Insights. Start broad, then narrow down: set the date range and locations for the whole page, choose the metrics in your summary, then use each card's own controls to dig in.
Some breakouts and cards require Insights Premium. The sections below note which ones.
Set the date range
Click the date filter at the top of the page. It shows the current range, such as Apr 5, 2026 — Oct 5, 2026.
Pick a preset — Last month, Last 3 months, Last 6 months or Last year — or click a start day and an end day on the calendar.
What to know about date ranges
Presets end today, so they include the current, unfinished week or month. For one full calendar month, pick its first and last day yourself.
You can look back up to 3 years.
Days follow your practice's time zone, not your computer's.
Cards marked As of today show a current snapshot and ignore the date range. These cards are Lapsed Patients, Lapsed Patient Revenue Potential and Payments Outstanding.
Choose which locations to include
Click Locations, then check the locations you want. Type in the search box to find one quickly.
Check All locations to select everything, or click Clear to start from none.
Choose your summary metrics
The five cards and the chart at the top of the page, called the Practice Health Summary, are yours to set.
Swap a card's metric
Click the card's title and pick another metric. If that metric is already on another card, the two cards swap places.
Chart metrics over time
In Metrics over time, click the metric name above the chart to change it. Click + Compare to add a second metric measured the same way: counts with counts, dollars with dollars, or rates with rates. Switch between Day and Week to change how the chart groups time.
Your choices are saved for you on this browser, and each teammate keeps their own.
Break down a card
Many cards have their own controls, which change only that card. Breakout adds one row per segment under the overall row. Filter narrows the card to only the values you choose. Use both together, for example to filter to new patients and break out by provider.
These are the controls on each card:
Appointment Outcomes has Breakout, Filter and Outcome controls. Break out or filter by appointment type, patient type or provider. The Detail option splits Completed into Confirmed and Unconfirmed, and Missed into No-show and Cancelled.
Patient Acquisition has a Breakout control. Break out by booking source or by new versus returning patients. Breaking out by UTM source, medium or campaign requires Insights Premium.
Online Booking Funnel requires Insights Premium. The Booking type control shows standard or one-click booking. The Filters control narrows by UTM fields, campaign, referrer, Reserve with Google or NexHealth-generated links.
Provider Utilization has a Provider type control that limits the list to the provider types you choose.
Reviews has NPS and Stars controls that switch between your NPS survey and star ratings.
Production vs. Collections has Monthly and Weekly controls that change how the chart groups time.
To sort a table, click a column header. Click it again to reverse the order. Hold Shift and click a second header to sort by it within ties of the first.
Check what a metric means
Point to the information (ⓘ) icon in the top-right corner of any card, or tap it on a tablet, to open About this metric. It explains what the card counts, for example whether cancelled or upcoming appointments are included.
It also shows the metric's Source:
EHR means the data is synced from your practice management system.
NexHealth means the data comes from activity in NexHealth, such as online bookings, forms and reviews.
EHR + NexHealth means the data comes from both.
Read the signals on a card
The subtitle under the title states the card's main counting rule, such as excluding upcoming.
A dash (—) means there is no data for your filters. A dash is different from zero.
A warning note such as There is no data available prior to Dec 10, 2025 means data for that card begins after your range starts.
Colored bars and cells use fixed bands, which are listed in the subtitle or the information panel. They are not a comparison with other practices.
